Advertising FAIL for Plastic Surgeon

This is not a good advertisement. So he's got a white cat, a tux and a glass of champagne. What does this tell me about Dr. Moore's skills? This just indicates that he likes to dress up. That pretty white cat may not even be his. The only thing that deals with his expertise is "Board Certified" below his name. But I think that they all have to be, otherwise the state he's in would not allow him to practice plastic surgery. When it comes to selling me on his services, this billboard is a FAIL.

Perhaps not surprisingly, this picture was originally seen on the "Funny or Die" web site.  Evidently, they wondered about this just as much as I do.

What I feel like whenever I try to exercise

Unfortunately,  I'm not as coordinated as this ballerina is.  I was 11 or 12 the last time that I tried to lift a leg this high.  Fat people need more exercise than anyone, but thanks to society's attitudes, they are the least likely to get it.  I remember the nasty remarks I received when I took up running right after I gave birth to my daughter.  I really needed to lose a few post-baby pounds, and thought that running would be a good way to reduce.  Which it was - until a smart-ass neighbor saw me and made some ugly comments.  After that, I tried to avoid this ass at all costs.  It wasn't long before I was staying away from the rest of his family as well.  They had tried to get me in trouble, but succeeded only in pissing me off.   The last I heard, their daughter was 13 and putting out for every boy in town. I haven't had anything to do with these people in over 20 years.  Wonder what the little tramp (or not so little, I should say) and her family are doing these days?

(Collage made by myself.  I used a picture of "Dancing With The Stars Barbie", gold-colored cardboard for the background, picture of money and gold from an ad for a jewelry store, glittery silver tape, and stickers.  The line "Sing and rejoice, fortune is smiling on you" is a fortune from a fortune cookie.)

Heard on the radio this morning that 60% of the women surveyed said they would rather be thin than smart.  Well, duh!  This is not news.  Actually, I'm surprised that the percentage wasn't higher.  Pretty, thin women are rewarded in numerous ways, just like the Barbie in the collage above.  Smart women are penalized for their brains.  If you don't believe me, look at Hillary Clinton.  Say what you will about Hillary's politics, but no one denies that she is intelligent.  Even my Republican father acknowledges Hillary's brains, though he has no use for any of her views.  Is Hillary universally loved like Barbie is?  Hell no!  Hillary is one of the most controversial politicians ever, even more polarizing than her husband was when he was President.  Had Hillary not had such a polarizing reputation, she may very well have been our first female President.

With all of this in mind, is it any wonder so many women seek plastic surgery?  If female intelligence were as valued as it should be, we would see stories about actresses' education in the supermarket tabloids instead of rumors of recent cosmetic surgery.

I've been blogging for two days, and haven't done any cat pictures yet.  Shame on me!  We all know how vital cat pictures are to the Internet.  This is my cat, Sparrow.  I'm supposed to be a cat herder, but Sparrow is really good at herding me.  He wakes me up at 5 AM every day (including weekends) to be fed, and doesn't stop bugging me until the food is in his mouth.  Sparrow is truly a master of persistence!
Why did I give this blog such an odd name? Well, I needed something that would stand out in the crowd.  As of February 16, 2011, there were 156 million blogs in existence, and Lord only knows how many more have come along in the year since then.  Even my 11-year-old son will have his own blog as part of his curriculum at school, along with all of his classmates. I found out when I had to sign a permission form for his teacher.  I pity the kids in his class who did not get consent for blogging and other Internet usage. (Hopefully, there aren't too many short-sighted parents who would deny their children the necessity of technology, but unfortunately, there's always at least one fool in every crowd.) The kids without Internet will be at a big disadvantage not only in school, but throughout life as well.  Blogs are here to stay!

As I said yesterday, I respect all well-thought out points of view on the subject of cosmetic surgery.  And according to Wikipedia, "cat herding" is defined as "an idiomatic saying that refers to an attempt to control or organize a class of entities which are uncontrollable or chaotic.  Implies a task that is extremely difficult or impossible to do, primarily due to chaotic factors."

And plastic surgery is nothing if not chaotic.  Not only does everyone have a different opinion of it, but new procedures and new ways of doing existing procedures come along every day.  And as new methods of doing plastic surgery come along, attitudes may very well change. Or maybe not.  As the French saying goes,  "The more things change, the more they stay the same." Will the French be proven right or wrong on this one?  Stay tuned and find out!

It's A Great Day For Sundee Bourret!

Welcome to the Cat Herd of Plastic Surgery!  This is a place to express any and all opinions concerning cosmetic surgery - the good, the bad and the ugly.  I want to hear from all of you, regardless of whether you are in favor of or opposed to plastic surgery.  All I ask is that you express your opinions in an intelligent manner.  Save the ugly name-calling for the talk-radio programs.  As a "cat-herder" I will moderate the debate and listen to all points of view.

Let the debate begin!
